When you are building a side project, a campaign tool can tempt you to spend an afternoon making creative before deciding who needs the offer. Start with a smaller question: can one reachable group understand this offer and take a useful next step? Campaign Studio can hold that test while you learn.
Our fictional example is a printable weekend meal-planning kit. No sales or earnings are claimed. This guide reflects the Campaign Studio interface inspected October 11, 2026. You still distribute the finished campaign yourself and enter its measurements from your records.
Give the brand profile a practical job
Use Saved brand profiles to choose work you already saved, or Create a new brand / New brand for a separate idea. Brand / business name is the public project name. Website is your optional main address. Link to a saved Website Traffic site is an optional association with a site in your signed-in account. Save brand profile preserves these choices for another campaign.
Best-fit customer should describe someone you can reach this week: “busy households that plan dinners on Sunday.” Core promise / value proposition should name the kit's actual utility: one grocery list built from a realistic weekly plan. Verified facts can describe included worksheets and file formats. Claims or phrases to avoid should exclude unsupported savings, health claims and invented testimonials. A new project can be honest about having no customer results yet.
Voice and tone controls wording style: warm and clear, confident and direct, playful and friendly, calm and professional, or premium and minimal. Primary and Accent colors control the artwork. Choose readable combinations rather than spending your entire experiment allowance on branding. Your measurement question matters more than perfect decoration.
Define one campaign and one next step
Saved campaigns opens previous work. New campaign creates a new record. Give Campaign name a useful label such as meal-kit-pinterest-october. Channel is where the message actually goes: Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, LinkedIn, Google Search Ads, YouTube, Pinterest, Email or Communities / partnerships.
Primary goal can be Qualified visitors, Email subscribers, Qualified leads or Sales. For a new kit, a relevant visitor trying a sample may be an earlier signal than a purchase. Define relevance yourself before counting it. Optional test budget is planned USD media cost; zero-budget distribution still consumes your time. Problem you are helping solve describes the reader's difficulty. Offer / what happens next explains the exchange. Landing page URL points directly to the sample or offer, with a working next step.
Write a time limit and spending limit beside the brief. Neither is a promise that the test will work. Test the destination yourself on a phone. If a reader cannot find the price, understand delivery or open the sample, more promotion will mostly produce more confusion.
Use the creative studio to explore a reason to care
Draft 3 messaging angles offers Relatable problem, Clear benefit and Helpful resource. These could become “Sunday planning feels overwhelming,” “make one usable shopping list,” and “try a sample planner.” Optional Generate three angles with AI depends on account and provider availability. Review output before use. Preflight review flags potential copy problems; it cannot prove your product works or guarantee ad approval.
Opening hook is the first attention cue. Headline states the idea. Caption / primary text explains it. Call to action tells the reader exactly what happens next. Visual template selects Editorial gradient, Calm minimal or Split spotlight. Creative size supplies Square 1080 × 1080, Story 1080 × 1920 or Landscape 1200 × 628. Match the receiving placement and check that important content is not covered by interface controls.
Optional product / brand photo is a rights-cleared upload, currently limited to 8 MB. Its preview is local and is not cloud-saved. The “Export editable creative PNG” button exports a flattened picture, so change source text in the studio and export again. Copy ad caption and Copy AI creative brief copy material for other workflows; Open ChatGPT opens another tool. Save campaign & creatives records the plan rather than publishing it. Keep copies of your draft and finished export.
Understand the tracking link
Source identifies the referring channel, medium groups the delivery type, campaign labels your test, and content distinguishes creative. Most social channels are tagged paid_social with a positive budget and organic_social without one. Google Search Ads uses cpc; Email uses email; Communities / partnerships uses referral. Read the resulting URL and correct your workflow if the label does not match actual distribution.
Tags help you recognize a visit in analytics. They cannot follow every person across devices or recover data never collected because of consent choices. Avoid personal information in tags and do not add campaign tags to links between pages on your own site. Save a plain-language note describing where you shared each version.
Enter observations, including what you do not know
| Result field | What to record for the kit test |
|---|---|
| Reporting date and Creative angle | One clearly described interval and the specific message version, with no overlapping rows. |
| Spend ($) | Money actually spent on distribution, even when it differs from the planned allowance. |
| Impressions | How many displays the platform reports, not how many different people saw it. |
| Clicks | Comparable link clicks leading to the offer, excluding unrelated taps or reactions. |
| Website visits | A consistent analytics unit, such as campaign sessions, for the same period. |
| Qualified leads | Distinct inquiries meeting your written fit rule; keep newsletter subscribers in a separate log. |
| Sales and Revenue ($) | Confirmed orders and their attributable value, documenting refunds, taxes and currency. |
| What did you learn? | Where data came from, hours spent, questions readers asked, uncertainties and the next test. |
Do not enter a weekly total after entering that week's daily totals. The studio adds rows. An unknown value should remain blank; a real observed zero should be zero. When different fields have different coverage, combined ratios can mislead. The current CSV leaves out angle, while the JSON brief keeps measurement entries and angle identifiers. Keep a small version log. There is no separate subscriber field or automatic statistical winner test.
Decide whether another test is worth the effort
Imagine $40 spent, 4,000 impressions, 80 clicks, 60 visits, three qualified inquiries and two $15 sales. CTR is 2%, lead rate is 5%, cost per lead is about $13.33, and ROAS is $30 ÷ $40 = 0.75×. Those sales did not recover media spending, even before fees, creation time and support. A campaign with no spend has no meaningful revenue-to-ad-spend ratio; it is not infinitely profitable.
Use the evidence to choose a limited next action. Relevant readers who cannot explain the offer suggest a clarity problem. People who use the sample but decline to buy may reveal a value or pricing question. No relevant visits suggests the distribution test did not reach the intended audience. Record the lesson and your total hours. The useful result of a first experiment can be a better decision, even when it earns nothing.
